Technical PR firm Stone Junction has appointed its first new hire of 2017 with the selection of STEM graduate Carla Mateus as an account executive. This appointment will both support the agency’s growing client base as well as further bolstering the firm's technical knowledge.
Graduating with first-class honours from Keele University in 2015, Mateus made the most of her undergraduate experience. As part of her biology with psychology degree, Mateus undertook a professional placement year with a global pharmaceutical company in Leeds. This role involved working on the latest innovative clinical trial developments, providing client service within the industry.
Mateus has also completed a post-graduate certificate in education, reinforcing her scientific knowledge from a new perspective. It was during her post-graduate studies that Mateus developed the ability to transform complex scientific details across biological, chemical and physical sciences into interactive, inclusive and non-intimidating content — a vital skill for science and technology PR campaigns.
"Carla’s appointment adds another layer of STEM knowledge and experience to the team," explained Richard Stone, managing director of Stone Junction. "Most of our clients operate in technology, technical, engineering or science sectors so this knowledge is invaluable. Carla’s experience working with a leading pharmaceutical firm also provides an understanding of the pressures and issues similar to those many of our clients face.”
"The range of clients at Stone Junction and the industries they service is an exciting prospect," said Mateus. "I enjoy taking technologically advanced text, that can often be challenging or confusing, and transforming it into reader-friendly and informative content, and I’m looking forward to applying this skill to the PR campaigns I will be working on. It’s great to be starting my PR journey at a firm like Stone Junction where I have the opportunity to put both my STEM and Portuguese language skills to use.”
Stone Junction is currently recruiting for several new entry-level and senior positions at its Staffordshire offices. Anyone interested in applying should visit the agency’s recruitment page here or get in touch by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling +44 (0)1785 225416.
