BLOGGING SERVICE: DON’T PUT THE CART BEFORE THE HORSE

Just the other day an SEO expert* I know compared the way Google reads your web site or Blog to the way you read a newspaper. He asked me, what do you read first?
The answer, of course, is the headline. However, if you use Blogger to manage your Blog you will find that the title of each page is set up as follows; “Name of your Blog” then “Post title”. Now, continuing the newspaper analogy, this is a bit like having the headline of each story set up as “The Financial Times/Business Section/Manufacturing Barometer/Higher input costs offset benefits of pound's fall”. Not very compelling right?
The good news is, there is an easy fix to this. Here’s what you do:
1. In your Blogger dashboard, go to “Layout” => “Edit HTML”
2. Download a copy of your template and save it, in case anything goes wrong or you just decide to change back
3. In the template code, do a search for this text:
It’s usually in the first 5-10 lines of code in your template.
4. Replace the above code with the following code:
5. Save your template and go back to your blog. You will see that the title of your posts now appears ahead of the title of your Blog on the sub pages (the unique pages generated to contain each story), while on the home page, the title appears by itself. Magic!
